Prospective students

Introductory information on your field of study can be found on the website for the Student Advisory and Counselling Centre (Zentrale Studienberatung) under the “Studienführer” section. (Only available in German)

A programme of study is generally chosen according to the following:

  • Students who aspire to become teachers in schools, generally choose the Bachelor “HRG” for “secondary schools up to the 10th grade excluding grammar schools” or the Bachelor “G” for primary schools.

  • Students who do not plan to become teachers, or who wish to become teachers at grammar or comprehensive schools (Gymnasien and Gesamtschulen) generally choose the “Zwei-Fach-Bachelor”.

We highly recommend that you seek further information on programmes of study and their prospective career opportunities before choosing your degree.

The Student Advisory and Counselling Centre offers open office hours daily or you can receive information from the counselling hotline. You also have the opportunity to get personal counselling.

The Registrar office (Studierendensekretariat) provides all of the necessary information for your enrolment at the University of Münster and offers one-on-one counselling during their open office hours.

The first semester

Please be sure to follow these steps once you have successfully enrolled at the University of Münster.

After enrolment, all students are expected to take the “C-Test”.

This test is meant to give you a realistic idea of the current level of your language abilities. Students can participate in classes designated within the basic module if they have received a score of at least 70 points on the C-Test.
Students who have not demonstrated a sufficient level of language ability are required to take courses in their first semester geared toward the improvement of basic language skills. The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers a large variety of classes oriented toward such students. Current information on these courses is available on their webpage.

Students must register for classes electronically before the start of the semester. Please be sure to closely follow the guidelines that appear in the programmes of study (Studienordnung) for your programme of study.

  • You can find the current programmes of study here.

  • You can find registration times and deadlines here.

  • Course registration can be done electronically on the LSF/QISPOS-PORTAL. (You received the login information with your enrolment documents.) Please be aware that important dates are listed on the homepage of the English Department.
You can confirm your course choices by clicking on the “Belegen/Abmelden” link and following the steps on the next page.

The English Department offers an orientation session at the beginning of the semester to inform you about the start of your programme. The dates will be available under the “News” section on the webpage of the English Department.

The student representatives also offer an info session for first semester students to address relevant topics such as planning your studies, creating your timetable, etc.

If you have further questions or concerns about your programme of study, please contact the counsellors during their posted office hours.
