The American Studies program at the English Department Münster is, in accordance with the New American Studies, conceived as interdisciplinary, transnational, and transcultural. Our major focus of research is on ethnic
studies. On the one
hand, we are deeply engaged in African American Studies with a special
emphasis
on the paradigms of the Black Atlantic and the Black Diaspora. In this
context,
aspects from the fields of Gender and New Migration Studies are also
taken into
account. On the other hand, we have strengthened our research activities
in the
field of Native American Studies, with a particular focus on
contemporary
Native American literature and film.
We furthermore apply cultural studies approaches to the budding field of Literature and Science, centering on the interrelation between Literature and Medicine.
